I set out to build a jig to remove the engine and Transmission from my  MC-8

The one in the MCI maintenance manual, is designed to fit around the oil pan, and would require removal once the engine was out of the bus, thus requiring an engine stand. It also depends on the air bags to lower the engine onto the engine dolly. It took a while but I designed one that would not only remove the engine but also act as a safe engine stand for the 3,500# unit.  I carefully made a template of the unused 5/8” boltholes in the bell housing. I then used the template to drill 4-¾” holes in each of the two 2x4x3/8x4 angles, and bolted them to the bell housing with 5/8x 1 ½” bolts and flat washers.  With 4x4x1/4 SQ tubing, I laid two pieces 60” long and 40” apart on the floor. I crossed these two with two more pieces 40” long.
The front cross would hold the front motor support by means of two 24”  upright pieces of the same,  with receiving notches to fit the sloped motor support. The left one notched 1 ½down x 1 ½ ” on the outside, starting from the back inside of the tubing, for the motor support, the front was notched to clear the water pump, 1” down and 1 ¼” back.  The Right upright, was notched 2 ¼ down x 2 ¾, starting from the back inside of tubing, for the motor support, and the front outside corner was notched 1 ½ x 1 ½ for the AC bracket. I welded the front cross to the two up rights
The back cross would connect with 11” tubing uprights to the bolted angles.

I attached the two crosses to the two length pieces with 2 ½ x 2 ½ angle clips welded to the crosses and bolted to the length pieces with ½ x 1 ½ inch bolts and flat washers, through 5/8-inch holes. I cut 2 ½” holes in the bottom of the length pieces to place and weld the nuts from the bottom side. This makes it possible to get the uprights in place and slide the length piece in place, without raising the bus any more. I just inserted a pallet jack and rolled the whole thing out. Wheels could be added, as with the MCI version, to eliminate the pallet jack. For a detail drawing see link below.

The Transmission jig was made to slide under  the trans, raise into place around the trans. oil pan, with the oil pan bolts resting there on, and insert the pallet jack  under it. Once removed, it could be blocked up with 4” blocks to remove pallet jack. It made it easy to remove and reinstall the trans. The Top is made of 1x2 Sq tubing, Uprights are 2 ½ x ¼ Angle
Braced with 2 ½ x ¼  Angles, and Resting on 2” Sq tubing.
