As it looked when I got it
 first day of interior removal

The caps had rivets about ever 2 inches, and a double row on top. Well over 600 rivets to drill out. By center punching in the center of the rivet, and drilling straight through, then working the rest of it out with a hammer and straight punch. The front MC-9 cap was placed over the original MC-8 cap. It was fiberglassed in to the old cap at the rear, a few inches short of the connection with the roof, instead of being attached with rivets over the original connection. The fiber glassed joint had to split apart. I used oak wedges to accomplish this. Once I got the 9 cap off, the MC-8 cap still remained. The 8 cap is made in two pieces, and riveted together in the middle ( did I count these?). It was over layed ontop of the roof, so not too hard to remove. The oak wedges helped to pry it loose from any remaining rivets remnants as well as the tar sealer between the two surfaces.

The rear cap was placed under the roof panel, with plenty of tar strip between the roof and cap, and between the cap and the bow.

I used a jack to lift the rear of the cap, separating the cap from the frame and tar. It was necessary to use the port a power to force it back and slide it out of the connection with the roof.
